NEWS: Four killed as 31 Boko Haram suspects arrested in Maiduguri

The Joint Task Force in Maiduguri the Borno state capital says three members of the Boko Haram insurgents and one soldier were killed in a gun battle between the insurgents and security forces in Maiduguri.In a statement today in Maiduguri, the spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, said the Task Force acting on information carried out a cordon and search operation at Bulabulin Ganram area of Maiduguri Metropolis and witnessed a severe resistance from the insurgents.The gun battle which was carried out around 12:30PM led to the death of three of the insurgents and one soldier as one other soldier was injured.The statement also revealed that one member of the JTF who is an immigration personnel was missing in the process.The statement adds that 31 members of Boko Haram were arrested, while one AK 47 Rifle, one G 3 rifle as well as some quantity of assorted magazines and ammunition were recovered from the scene.Efforts, according to the statement, are being made to find out the where about of the missing JTF personnel.

REPORT OF FRAUDULENT OBTAINMENT OF MONEY BY MR NAETO CHIKWE
We write to report the case of obtainment by false pretense committed against our enterprise Fine Boy Swag Entertainment (herein referred to as “Our Company”) by Mr. NAETO CHIKWE. (A musician by profession who is popularly known as “NAETO C” also herein referred to as “NAETO C”.)
We would like to state that we had discussions with NAETO C over a contract to perform at the show which was scheduled to hold at Cubicle Arena, Maitama Garden, Maitama on 18th of July 2012 by 5:00pm in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria and he agreed to perform at the show. Our agreement is detailed in a one page contract agreement dated 14th July, 2012 and signed by NAETO C and our enterprise. A copy of said contract is hereby attached. Consequently, and as agreed upon discussions with NAETO C, Our Company paid a deposit in the sum of four hundred thousand Naira (N400, 000.00) in to NAETO C’s Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) Account with the account details as follows Account Name: Naeto Chikwe. Acct Number: 0115788951.
A copy of the GTB payment teller is hereby attached.
NAETO C defaulted in performing as agreed in the contract signed, and also failed to pay back the money paid in respect of the contract four hundred thousand Naira (N400,000.00) being the deposit paid in respect of the contract.
His actions as stated above apart from being a breach have also constituted an obtainment by false pretense which constitutes an offence under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We hereby write to inform the general public of the activities constituting a betrayal of trust and serious criminal offence which should be accorded attention by all concerned.
NAETO C’s actions have made Our Company to suffer damages, which among others include loss of good image, business goodwill and withdrawal of contract deals by clients as many clients now see Our Client as being unreliable.
Our discussions with NAETO C to recover the amount paid have been fruitless and have been met with insults.
We have written to EFCC to ensure that justice is done in respect of this matter and also to ensure that NAETO C is brought to book to curb the crime rate in Nigeria
We will be available for further consultations in respect of this matter as the claims are not in any way frivolous.

Most Wanted Kidnapper In Delta State Is A Ph.D Holder – CP

Delta State commissioner of police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba has revealed that one of the most wanted kidnappers in the State, is a doctorate degree (Ph.D) holder in Mechanical Engineering.
Aduba who made this disclosure while speaking in an interview in Asaba, said the man (name witheld) hails from Kokori area in Ethiope Local Government Area of the state, adding that the criminal had become a thorn in the flesh, as he masterminded most of the abduction cases in the state.
The commissioner also disclosed that over 300 kidnappers and robbers had either been arrested or killed in the state since March.
Aduba lamented the refusal of victims to testify in court as the reasons some of the suspected kidnappers were acquitted.

According to people in the know, the actor died today at Park Lane Hospital in Enugu where he has been receiving treatment. This man will be missed. Most of us love his gentle nature in movies. NCC bans telecommunication operators from lotteries, promotions

Abuja – The Nigerian CommunicationsCommission (NCC) on Monday warned telecommunications operators against running lotteries and promotions.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Tony Ojobo, the Director, Public Affairs of the commission in Abuja.

The ban covered approved promotions and lotteries in which the NCC signed a Memorandum of understanding with the National Lottery Regulatory Commission.

The statement said the ban would be in place until such a time as might be determined by the commission.

The commission had in recent times been inundated with several complaints from consumers and stakeholders against the various promotions offered by the operators.

It said the commission had evaluated the complaints received against the backdrop of sustaining the integrity of the networks and the general interest of the consumers.

The statement further said that the commission was mindful of one of its statutory responsibilities; to protect and promote the interest of consumers against unfair practises.

 Two young women aged 20 and 25 years respectively – one in a mini-skirt and one in a top that left her entire breast almost exposed, were molested by a large group of men in Cameroon.

Eyewitness say a group of men gathered in front of the shop the girls had entered. As soon as the girls came out, the men followed them,sexually molested and stripped one of the girls naked and started taking photos with their cellphones.

Her friend who tried to assist her was then also abused. The girl who wore the mini-skirt was eventually rescued by police, who escorted her home, whilst the other was saved by a businessman, and was also later escorted home.

Truly, the heart of man is desperately wicked! Else, what justification does anyone have for boiling the hands of a 2 year old child???Why are people so mean??? Residents of Langbasa, a community in Ajah area of Lagos, are accusing a woman in the neighborhood of causing a grievous harm on her two-year-old stepdaughter. Kehinde, as she’s known, is in trouble for allegedly dipping the two hands of her little stepdaughter, Esther, into oven-hot water.
The girl’s hands were boiled terribly, and many are raising concern that one of them might have become utterly useless. Esther, it was gathered, has lost her own mum about a year ago a few days after her first birthday. The poor little girl has since been living with her father, known among residents of the area as Baba Eleja. Baba Eleja, Esther’s dad, later brought in Kehinde, a mother of three, as his wife. He put Esther in the care of his new wife, Kehinde.

A Cowdry Park man who is reported to be having an affair with a 16-year-old girl, a member of a Satanist cult that feeds on human flesh and blood, is reported to have been evicted by his landlord.
Bhekani Mpofu, who is apparently married and a father of two, is reported to have been evicted by his landlord who was no longer comfortable with staying with him.
“Mpofu and his family were given a notice by the owner of the house when he discovered that he was having an affair with a young girl who is being linked to Satanism,” said the source.
It is reported that Mpofu has been struggling to secure another room to rent as he insisted that he was going to marry the young lady.

The Managing Director of Nigerian Compass, Mr. Sina Kawonise and his police orderly were yesterday shot by unknown gunmen.
Reports say Kawonise who was Commissioner of Information during ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel’s tenure, was attacked by the gunmen around Ikeji Arakeji in Osun State on his way back from Awka, Anambra State.
A statement by media aide to Gbenga Daniel, Adegbenro Adebanjo revealed that the gunmen opened fire in order to force his vehicle to stop.
“The attackers were, however, repelled by his two police orderlies. In the ensuing gun battle Mr Kawonise was shot in the leg by the attackers while one of the two policemen also suffered gunshot wounds.

Obama picked up the swing states of New Hampshire, Michigan, New Mexico, Iowa, Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Ohio. Of the swing states, Romney picked up only North Carolina. Florida is still too close to call, but even if Romney wins the state, Obama still beat him in the Electoral College vote. The popular vote will most likely be narrower than the president's decisive Electoral College victory.
In a sweeping victory speech early Wednesday morning, Obama thanked every American who voted, and vowed to work with leaders from both parties to tackle the country's challenges.
"Our economy is recovering, a decade of war is ending, a long campaign is now over," he told a crowd of cheering supporters in Chicago. "And whether I earned your vote or not, I have listened to you, I have learned from you and you have made me a better president." Obama added he has "never been more hopeful about America. ... We're not as divided as our politics suggest. We remain more than a collection of blue states and red states."

JTF gun down 14 suspected kidnappers in Rivers

The Joint Task Force have killed 13 members of a gang suspected of abducting a Turkish man in an early morning raid on their hideout in oil-producing Rivers state, police said on Saturday.

A 20 million naira ($127,600) ransom was paid for the release of Bayram Karakus, who worked for the Rivigo Construction company, Rivers police spokesman Ben Ugwuegbulam told a news agency.He gave no details of what happened to the Turkish man.

“A combined team of operatives … stormed the militant camp of a notorious gang also responsible for kidnapping, armed robbery, killing of policemen and civilians in the recent past,” Ugwuegbulam said.

“In the ensuing gun battle six of the hoodlums were fatally wounded … seven of the wounded died on the way to hospital.”Ugwuegbulam said the police recovered N98,900, the bags used to deliver the ransom, six AK 47 rifles and ammunition in the raid on Friday.The raid was said to be carried out around 2:50 AM in Kaani community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Addressing Boko Haram problem is not my responsibility – Borno governor

  The governor of Borno State, Kashim Shetima on Thursday said he is more committed to addressing developmental problem in the state while allowing security agencies to deal with the issues of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram.

The governor, who was in the Presidential Villa in Abuja to attend the monthly National Economic Council meeting, was reacting to allegations that some renowned politicians in his state are members of the Boko Haram sect.

Mr Shettima said his focus is to provide the indigenes of Bornu State with good governance while it behoves on the security agencies to unearth the truth concerning Boko Haram.

Britney Spears libel case is thrown out of court in US

A civil case brought against Britney Spears and her family by her former manager has been thrown out of court by a judge.

Osama 'Sam' Lutfi, who said he worked for the singer in 2007 and 2008, had sued for breach of contract.
He'd also tried to sue Britney's mother, Lynne Spears, for defamation, and her father, Jamie, for assault.
After two weeks of testimony judge Suzanne Bruguera said there was not enough evidence to continue.
She told Los Angeles' Superior Court that it was "the right thing to do".
She said Sam Lutfi hadn't proven any of the claims he'd made during the trial.
For the past fortnight, the court had been hearing about the public breakdown Britney had more than four years ago.

Nigeria: Boko Haram Names Buhari, Five Others As Mediators - *FG Welcomes Move, Buhari Cautious

Maiduguri — Leadership of Jama'atul Ahlis Sunnah Lidda'awati Wal Jihad, also called Boko Haram, has named the former Head of State and presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), among six prominent northerners, to mediate between the group and the Federal Government.

The Federal Government in a statement by Dr. Reuben Abati, Presidential Spokesman, Thursday, welcomed the move.

Boko Haram, however, said that for the group to observe ceasefire, the Federal Government must heed its demand by arresting and prosecuting the former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
