The Joint Task Force in Maiduguri the Borno state capital says three members of the Boko Haram insurgents and one soldier were killed in a gun battle between the insurgents and security forces in Maiduguri.In a statement today in Maiduguri, the spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, said the Task Force acting on information carried out a cordon and search operation at Bulabulin Ganram area of Maiduguri Metropolis and witnessed a severe resistance from the insurgents.The gun battle which was carried out around 12:30PM led to the death of three of the insurgents and one soldier as one other soldier was injured.The statement also revealed that one member of the JTF who is an immigration personnel was missing in the process.The statement adds that 31 members of Boko Haram were arrested, while one AK 47 Rifle, one G 3 rifle as well as some quantity of assorted magazines and ammunition were recovered from the scene.Efforts, according to the statement, are being made to find out the where about of the missing JTF personnel.
Maiduguri — Leadership of Jama'atul Ahlis Sunnah Lidda'awati Wal Jihad, also called Boko Haram, has named the former Head of State and presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), among six prominent northerners, to mediate between the group and the Federal Government.
The Federal Government in a statement by Dr. Reuben Abati, Presidential Spokesman, Thursday, welcomed the move.
Boko Haram, however, said that for the group to observe ceasefire, the Federal Government must heed its demand by arresting and prosecuting the former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
